Holden Parts in Australia: What’s Still Available After the Brand Exit

Holden Commodore parts available at a Brisbane wrecker

Holden ceased manufacturing in Australia in 2017, and by 2020 the brand was gone entirely. But millions of Holdens are still on Australian roads — Commodores, Cruzes, Captivas, Colorados, and Astras are a common sight at any Brisbane wrecker. Here’s what’s still available, and what to expect as the supply picture shifts over time.

The Holden supply problem

With no new Holdens being built, the supply of quality used parts can only come from existing vehicles being wrecked. As the years pass, fewer Holdens come through the yards — particularly late-model vehicles that are still running well — which means popular parts can become harder to find. Sourcing sooner rather than later is often the smarter move for Holden owners.

What parts are still commonly available at Brisbane wreckers

The Commodore (VZ, VE, and VF generations) remains the most common Holden at wrecking yards. Frequently available parts include:

  • V6 and V8 engines from VE and VF Commodores
  • Automatic and manual gearboxes
  • Body panels — doors, bonnets, guards — particularly from higher-mileage vehicles
  • Suspension components including struts and control arms
  • Interior trim and seats from low-kilometre examples
  • Electronics, modules, and ECUs

Cruze parts (J300 series) are also available in reasonable numbers, particularly engines, suspension, and body panels. Captiva supply is thinner but not impossible for common parts.

Which Holden models are still wrecked regularly in Brisbane

VE Commodore (2006–2013) and VF Commodore (2013–2017) are the most common at Brisbane wrecking yards right now. Colorado utes from the RG series are also seen regularly. Earlier models like the VZ and VT/VX/VY are becoming less frequent — parts exist but may take some lead time to locate.

Tips for buying used Holden parts

Given the declining supply, it’s worth being flexible on the generation you can use a part from — particularly for mechanical components where the fitment crosses multiple model years. A wrecking yard with a large Holden intake is a good starting point. Call ahead and be specific about your requirements: make, model, series, engine size, and the part you need.
